SubStory for Chrome and Safari (browser extension)
The SubStory browser extension runs on reddit.com and uses the Reddit account you're signed in to there. It never sees your Reddit password or reads your login cookies; your browser sends those cookies only to Reddit. To vote and comment, it asks Reddit for your username and a security token, which stay in memory and go only back to Reddit.
Stored in your browser: your followed subreddits and people, custom feeds, settings, saved posts and the posts you've already seen. This data stays in your browser and isn't sent to us. Boss Mode's passcode is stored as a salted hash and never leaves your device.
On iPhone and iPad, SubStory for Safari syncs your follows and Boss Mode settings, but not its passcode, with the SubStory app on the same device. From there, the app's iCloud sync applies.
Sent to us: to suggest related subreddits and map connected communities, the extension sends subreddit names to SubStory's recommendation service (recs.substory.app). The request carries no account, user ID or Reddit username. The service doesn't log IP addresses.
Sent to others: when a post links to a video on Redgifs, the extension asks Redgifs for a temporary access token and then for that video, governed by Redgifs' privacy policy. Votes, comments, subscription imports and anything else you do on Reddit go to Reddit, governed by Reddit's privacy policy.
The extension is free and needs no SubStory account. It has no ads, analytics, crash reporting or tracking, and it doesn't sell or share your data. Its use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
